Looking back
160 years ago, a species of gumtree was named after Baron Sir Ferdinand von Mueller (1825–1896), who was regarded as the greatest Australian botanist of his century. It is this species, the Eucalyptus Muelleriana, commonly known as Yellow Stringybark, that has been recycled into the Grand Log Seat that now sits in the middle of the SkyRidge Sales & Experience Centre.
The timber of this species played a significant role in the history of Australia’s industrialisation including railway sleepers in the era of steam trains that opened up our vast nation, as well as shipping wharves and pylons when sailing ships connected our country with the world.
Looking Forward
Today, the natural environment within SkyRidge is being meticulously planned and crafted with a real focus on achieving the best environmental outcomes. The minimum 100 metre-wide ecological corridor, weaving 3km throughout the site, will be protected and rehabilitated. Including the various parklands throughout SkyRidge, more than 21% of the estate will be devoted to open space parklands and natural conservation.
Approximately 50,000 new trees and 550,000 shrubs are being planted at SkyRidge. This is part of our commitment to creating a community in which nature not only survives, but thrives.
